VDL Overview

In line with ADEK & MOE guidelines, Virginia International Private School is preparing to offer a Distance Learning Program for a 2 week period, from 22 March – 5 April (and potentially beyond).  

Key Points:

  • The distance learning program will consist of both e-learning and traditional learning activities.  
  • The subjects to be delivered via distance learning will be: Islamic Studies, Arabic, English, Math, and Science.  ICT has been added in the Secondary Phase (6-10) as an additional subject-to support the Innovation Project.
  • All teachers will provide additional communication and material via email–as a backup to the existing platforms.

Gr. 1-3 Class Dojo – This is our primary platform for distance learning.  Hippo Video, etc.

Roles and Responsibilities

Students  What are the responsibilities and expectations for students? 

  1. Access the learning platform (Class Dojo/Google Classroom).
  2. Sign in to the platform Sunday to Thursday for task updates. 
  3. Read and review the recommended daily routine.
  4. Finish assigned tasks on a daily basis.
  5. Complete the task posted by the teacher (turn it in).

*Ask for support by emailing the teacher or asking directly on Google Hangouts or via Google Classroom/Class Dojo. 

*Take brain breaks and move regularly as they engage in the activities and study.

*Be available during optional online support conferences.

*Complete silent reading on a daily basis (complete reading journals as required).

Parents / Guardians  What are the responsibilities and expectations for Parents/Guardians? 

  1. Ensure that your child has access to the learning platform (Class Dojo or Google Classroom).
  2. Establish routines and expectations to maintain a familiar rhythm of the day. 
  3. Balance screen time and non-screen time tasks.
  4. Students should take brain breaks and move regularly as they engage in the activities and study.
  5. Discuss what your child is learning and ask questions. 
  6. Establish times for quiet work and reflection.
  7. Communicate with teachers (and school) when necessary.
Teachers  What are the responsibilities and expectations for teachers? 

  1. Ensure communication is established with students and parents via the platforms. 
  2. Design meaningful teaching and learning activities for the students.
  3. Be available to ensure the success of the distance learning journey.
  4. Guide students with clear instructions for each task. 
  5. Provide necessary resources ( instructional material, video tutorial and online resources).
  6. Check student assignments/homework/attendance.
  7. Follow up/communicate/update student learning platforms daily.
  8. All content must be emailed separately as an attachment to the parent’s email.
  9. Communicate with parents on a regular basis.

  • ♦ Be sure to read the blending and HFW that are already covered, and for KG 2 students, practice at least 5 words a day from the spelling list that will be sent on Class Dojo.
  • ♦ Teachers will be available during the day to answer any questions.
